There are many times in our lives when we don’t want to be godly. We want to hate, be angry, not forgive, and be outright ugly. We want revenge and show we’re not ‘the one’ to mess around with. We allow our anger to take over and take the lead in our lives, but in these moments, we must set our sights on another way.
Let the Word Deal with You
God’s Word is not only for times when we’re happy, but to guide us when we’re not. We need God’s Word even more during these times because we run the risk of walking in the darkness of sin. We need His Word to be a lamp for our feet and a light for our path (Psalm 119:105).
1. Do not become anxious. When we’re feeling angry, revengeful, etc., it’s important that we don’t become anxious to act (Proverbs 19:2). We must fight the feeling to move quickly just to make a decision out of emotion.
2. Surround yourself with godliness. Through God’s Word, worship music, and godly people, our mind, heart, and will has the ability to be shaped and conformed in righteousness (Joshua 1:8; Romans 10:17; Philippians 4:8-9).
3. Be still until you hear from God (Psalm 46:10). As we remain still, God’s Word and will begins to saturate our mind, body, and soul. We come to see God’s purpose for us in the given situation – to bring Him glory and exalt His way and will through your actions.
When you’re not feeling your ‘best,’ remember not to become anxious, surround yourself with godliness, and be still until you hear from God.
