Many people today are judged by their status through social media. Likes, shares, and views provide a sense of approval, appreciation, and acceptance. Some spend their days and nights watching their smartphones and computers, waiting for positive affirmation. But as we’re surrounded by a society which desires such attention, we cannot forget the only ‘like’ that matters.
In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus shares a parable about a man traveling into a far country. He provided different talents to his servants. One servant received five talents. Another receive two. Then another one. Each servant received enough talents according to his ability.
After the man had departed, the servants with five and two talents traded and doubled what they received. However, the servant who received one talent placed his talent in the earth.
When the man returned, he came to take account of what the servants did with the talents they received. After the servant with five talents had told the man what he had done, the man said, ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.’ The same occurred for the servant with two talents. However, the servant with one talent said because he knew the man was hard, reaped where he hasn’t sown, and gathered where he hasn’t spread seed, he hid his talent in the earth.
The man called him wicked and slothful. If the servant knew what type of man he was, the servant should have (at least) given the talent to the exchangers to receive some interest. The man asked for the one talent to be taken from the servant and given to the servant with ten talents.
God has given you specific ‘talents’ according to your ability. Instead of chasing after likes, views, and shares, use the time you have to benefit others with it. No matter whether you can play an instrument, speak, cook, design, give comforting hugs…whatever you have or can do, share it with the world. Allow others to experience the blessings God placed inside of you so that He can be glorified and many others will come to know Him.
When you stand before God, you will not think about the likes, shares, and views you received in your lifetime. You’ll only be thinking about one. Live for God. Serve Him faithful. Receive your ‘well done.’ He is coming soon.
