Luke 11:33-35 – No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light. The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.
1. Your eyes are never satisfied.
Proverbs 27:20 – Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
Your eyes will never get to a point where they don’t want to see things. You hear a noise; you want to see what it is. You may find yourself constantly glancing around wherever you travel and watching everything in your surroundings. You like to see stuff.
2. What you see determines the condition of your soul. Not all things are beneficial to view. As Jesus describes above, what you see determines the condition of your soul. If you view those things that are pure and lovely, then your whole body is full of light. However, if you spend your time viewing things that are evil, your body will be full of darkness.
One of the reasons hell and destruction are never full is because the eyes of man are not satisfied. As John explains in one of his epistles, the lust of the eyes is one of the attributes of the world (1 John 2:15-17). When a person lusts after something they see (people, places, and things), there may come a time when they desire to conduct illegal activities or behaviors (of sin) in order to receive what they see – especially if they are unable to receive it honestly.
3. You can only be full of light or darkness. Based on what you see, you will EITHER be filled with light or darkness. You cannot be 90% light and 10% darkness. There are no percentage points here. It’s one or the other.
4. Live to be full of light. Living to be full of light takes an active stance of discipline on your part. There will be some things you know for sure not to look at (television shows, movies, magazines, Internet sites), and then there will be others that may not be so obvious. For some, this would require them not to travel to certain places or speak with specific people.
Living for the Lord is not about how much enjoyment you can have on earth before you cross the line of sin, it is living holy unto Him entirely – being unspotted from the world. You don’t even want the remote chance of having ANYTHING to cause your body to be filled with darkness. Do what it takes to keep your body full of light.
Psalm 101:3 – I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
Proverbs 4:20-27 – My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
