If we are truthful with ourselves, we sometimes get tired of waiting. Life seems to be passing us by while we’re stuck in a moment, a season, or a predicament.
“If only God would move faster or bring resolution quicker, I can be free, jump for joy, and give more to Him. But here I am…somewhere I don’t want to be.”
Though waiting can sometimes be tough, there are four things we can learn while waiting:
1—Waiting gives us perspective. Waiting gives us the opportunity to see our situation differently. Instead of simply seeing the micro-level, in time, we see the macro-level. We see and understand that God has a bigger plan in store for us beyond our current circumstances. He wants to do something in us and through us for His glory.
2—Waiting gives us purpose. When God created a good work in us, He will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ, the day of completion (Philippians 1:6). Our times of waiting is preparing us for God’s purpose, which is to live righteously with Him on earth, tell of and show His goodness to others, and live in the New Jerusalem with Him for all eternity. God is continuing the good work He started in you, and that often takes time. Though God can remove everything in a moment, taking us through provides a testimony of His love and grace and helps others who follow behind us receive encourage, hope, and support through our walk of waiting.
3—Waiting gives us position. Being in the right place at the wrong time is wrong. We must be in the right place at the right time. Waiting helps us do that. It helps us trust in God’s plan as He is orchestrating more than we can ever fathom in the background on our behalf…for His glory. No matter how things might seem, don’t lose hope that God is still for you. He hasn’t forgotten you. He is on your side. God will bring you to your rightful place in Him.
4—Waiting gives us patience. Waiting helps us to learn, “not my will, but Your will be done.” We all say it, but when God takes us up on it, it becomes a different story.
As our lives are meant to glorify God, He is using patience to build you and others according to His good pleasure. Patience can perfect you and help you move in the times of God’s grace rather than the fast-paced nature of our society and our desires (James 1:2-8).
Don’t take your season of waiting for granted. God wastes no part of your life—even the difficult seasons. He will use all of you to be a tremendous blessing to the world before you hear, “well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
