Impatient, lazy, foul-mouthed, angry, evil, lustful, dangerous, and spiteful people fill our homes, workplaces, and yes…churches. Through God’s infinite grace and mercy, you may have been among those delivered from the destructive traits and behaviors listed above. God has been so good to us, but often we fail to show that same goodness to others.
Jesus’ second commandment is for us to love others as ourselves (Matthew 22:35-39). If we are not careful, we can find ourselves hating, gossiping, and harboring anger toward those we once resembled. We wanted mercy, we desired grace, we longed to be understood, we desired peace from our pain, and to be forgiven, but yet, we fail to do the same for others.
People we feel aren’t good enough, pretty enough, smart enough, or work hard enough are loved by the Lord. God loved them so much that He sent His ONLY SON to SUFFER and DIE for us ALL (John 3:16). He could easily condemn those that do not believe in His Son, but His patience allows for many to draw to Him each day.
We should not treat others as if they aren’t good enough or believe they can never change.
Jesus came to seek and save those that are lost (Luke 19:10), but often we conclude that some are not worth being found. We become calloused to the idea of anyone changing from their evil or wicked ways (in or out of the church). We condemn and judge them as unworthy rejects to receive the love of God.
God is calling us to love. No one is outside of God’s love or incapable of changing. Nothing is impossible for God! We live by faith and not by what we see, hear, or think (2 Corinthians 5:7)! May we no longer look at others as the world sees them (2 Corinthians 5:16), but as God does – worthy to die for and worthy to receive the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
