Psalm 37:8 – Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
There comes a time when you’re so mad that the the scripture above doesn’t come to mind. In fact, the only thing that comes to mind when you’re mad is revenge; giving into temptation/sin; and going O-F-F on someone! Peace, love, calmness are no where near your mind.
Anger is a dangerous emotion. Anger desires a response. It doesn’t consider the consequences. It only considers itself – at all costs. It’s a highway to other emotions and actions:
Proverbs 23:23 – Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
People are selling a lot of stuff today. What we find for sale is not just what is found in stores or online shops, but ideas, opinions, and beliefs. Many people have opinions and they want you to buy into what they’re selling. They present their messages with passion, props, and videos and if we’re not careful, we buy into the message without first considering its merit of truth.
Proverbs 23:12 – Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
After years of public school (college, etc.), the last thing many people want to do is read and study. As disciples of Jesus Christ, you’ll learn that a lifetime of learning will be extremely beneficial in remaining faithful and committed in your walk with Him.
Reading, meditation, and study are just a few ways you can grow in knowledge, understanding, and find success in the Lord (Joshua 1:8; Psalm 119:104 ; Proverbs 24:3-4).
You might not need to attend Seminary or some other formal training, but you can:
1. read/meditate on/study the Bible
2. read Christian books, magazines, etc.
3. attend conferences and seminars
4. volunteer in a church department of education (i.e. Sunday School)
