We are all citizens of a country. Whether we are natural-born citizens or become citizens by other means, we each maintain citizenship with a nation. Each country is identified by the attributes of the country, its landscape and people. However, within this post, we’re addressing those that are citizens of a different type of country – the country of Roam.
Roam is a ‘place’ where its citizens are identified by the improper use of their eyes, ears, mouth, hands, and feet. They use their eyes to roam up and down people for sexual pleasure (Matthew 5:27-28); ears to listen to all types of gossip and evil (Proverbs 16:28, 18:8); hands to touch unclean things (and people) unworthily (2 Corinthians 6:17-18); and feet to travel to places they ought not go (Proverbs 1:10-19).
Ephesians 5:1-4 – Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
In our society today, we are bombarded with fornication, uncleanness, covetousness, filthiness, jesting, and foolish talk. We don’t have to look any further than television, music, and our surrounding environment to find these in abundance. As Paul told the church in Ephesus, these things were not to be named even once among them. Sadly however, it is these very things that have become sources of conduct and entertainment in our own lives. .
We’ve become accustomed to sin.
Keep your hands far away from the cookie jar Pass the plate and be healthy from sin-laced candy bars Get on the lookout for temptation strollin like a Sunday driver In the streets giving rides to any straying hitchhikers Hit the track, beat the record and break the tape Win the prize marked for you promised in the last day Stay steady on the road that leads you to freedom Pay no attention to temptation when he comes to see you But ‘I know him,’ maybe so a long time ago But would a friend lie to you to destroy your soul Blowing kisses and passing notes to deceive your life Check NO, not maybe so, to live a righteous life Hear the bell and proceed to your spiritual class The grace of God is your teacher and will help you pass Submit your walk and your life to our Savior and King Keep your eyes on the prize and not detestable things
