Money

Money cannot buy all things. Some of the best gifts are free.

There is one thing you have been given since birth that will remain forever. It can be worth more than the finest riches or be compared to mere pennies. It can become your greatest asset or your worse ally. And though you can earn millions of dollars throughout your lifetime, it will never compare to what you have been given at birth, if you consider its true worth. It takes years to build and only moments to lose. And you have complete control over its value: a good name.

Proverbs 22:1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

Staying Level

Proverbs 30:8-9 – Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

Here are the words of Agur…a prayer unto the Lord to live with integrity (and balance) in His presence. When many people are asking God for more success, money, and power, Agur prayed that he have neither poverty nor riches and to be fed with food that’s convenient for him. When many people are waiting for their ‘overflow’ of blessings, Agur desired to remain in a state where he would neither deny the Lord or take His name in vain through His actions.

For many families, the Holiday Season (from Thanksgiving to Christmas) is the costliest of the year. Traditions of holiday sales and long wish lists have become staples of our country. DestinationCRM.com estimates that online spending in the U.S. will be $27 billion.1

Many families incur large amounts of debt to provide an ‘all-star’ holiday of expensive gifts. Long after the holiday season is over, many people will spend the year (or years) paying off credit cards and loans for less than one month of shopping. Where will these gifts be in one year: broken; stuffed in closets and drawers; forgotten; or thrown away?!

If you follow the spending ‘traditions’ of our country, please consider using this upcoming holiday season to enjoy your family and to give thanks to God. There are many ways you can show your appreciation and love besides purchasing expensive gifts that keep you bound to the chains of debt.
